4/27/2020 April 27 - May 1Please review this week’s overview and assignments handout (also available under “files” in the General channel of our class Team). We do NOT have any scheduled Live lessons for Contemporary Literature this week. Instead, please work at your own pace on the readings and assignments provided.
The work this week pushes you to be more critical and analytical, so please pay attention to the specific instructions and documents provided to help you be successful. All work done this week is graded. You will find the specific point-value listed in the weekly overview. I will be online today and on Thursday between 10am – 3pm to answer any urgent or immediate questions via Teams OR email. A note about grading: OSPI released its grading policy last week, which led to ISD doing the same on Thursday. While it was made clear that student grades cannot drop from where they were on March 17, you will need to continue engaging in class assignments / lessons in order to earn credit for the course. I am working this week with the English department to determine what that “engagement” looks like and considering how it will be measured in this class. I plan to let you know what that will specifically look like in our class later this week, but please know I am aiming for something that is fair for all students while also motivating all students to continue learning. I am moving all work to a standards-based grading model. This means that all work will be graded on a 4-point scale moving forward (4=Exceeds Expectations, 3 = Meets Standards, 2 = Partial Mastery/Approaching Standard, 1 = Does not meet standard/incomplete). Again, I will share more specific details about grading later this week. Please reach out if you have any questions! Announcement unrelated to class: Check out this summer service and leadership opportunity if you're interested in participating in a virtual exchange this summer: https://www.experiment.org/digital/ Comments are closed.
