I will not accept any work beyond that point. Make sure you are submitting all work before this final deadline! At this point, grades are current. If you submit any “late” work, please email me so that I can promptly update the grade book. 5/27/2020 Week of May 26-29Please review the overview and assignments for the next three weeks. The work this week pushes you to be more critical and analytical, so please pay attention to the specific instructions and documents provided to help you be successful. All work done this week is graded. You will find the specific point-value listed in the weekly overview. I will be online today and on Thursday between 10am – 3pm to answer any urgent or immediate questions via Teams OR email. A note about grading: OSPI released its grading policy last week, which led to ISD doing the same on Thursday. While it was made clear that student grades cannot drop from where they were on March 17, you will need to continue engaging in class assignments / lessons in order to earn credit for the course. I am working this week with the English department to determine what that “engagement” looks like and considering how it will be measured in this class. I plan to let you know what that will specifically look like in our class later this week, but please know I am aiming for something that is fair for all students while also motivating all students to continue learning. I am moving all work to a standards-based grading model. This means that all work will be graded on a 4-point scale moving forward (4=Exceeds Expectations, 3 = Meets Standards, 2 = Partial Mastery/Approaching Standard, 1 = Does not meet standard/incomplete). Again, I will share more specific details about grading later this week. Please reach out if you have any questions! See below for the suggested learning activities for this week. If you are just tuning in, refer the blog post/Google doc instructions on how to engage in the learning activities for our class moving forward. With the new district guidelines, the week of April 6-10 will be the last week where submitting work will be optional as we finish up reading and discussing Born A Crime. You will notice Skyward updated with your overall participation "grade" during this time by Friday. Remember this will not contribute to your overall grade in the class so far. As indicated in the district and Liberty eNews, after Spring Break and starting on April 20th all students will receive online instruction, activities, and assessments that will be graded. That said, you are required to sign up for freeforums.net by Friday, April 10, otherwise you will be locked out of graded work after spring break. Refer to the blog post/Google doc instructions for details. For the remainder of this week, finish reading Born A Crime and do the following
Any Day This Week (and moving forward): The master board “Quarantine Diaries” is available for all to share your personal narratives about existing in a time of social distancing from all. I have included directions for what I would like for this to look like under the board, so feel free to add your comments and candid thoughts here. The idea behind this is to continue engaging with one another intentionally outside of class. If school were in session as usual, we'd be moving into a writing project similar to that of Humans of New York, where you would have had the opportunity to do some storytelling based on your day-to-day interactions with humans of Liberty High School. Alas, for now, let's focus on storytelling about our own unique lives as we continue to exist through this unique time! 3/30/2020 Week of March 30Hey everyone!
